Jun 26, 2004 - Yakima Speedway

Wow, what a hot day at the races on Saturday. We got some practice early in the morning. We got on the track at 8:00 am and practiced till noon with the temperatures rising into the high 80's and expected to reach the mid 90's. Practice went decent running lap times of 19.60's and 19.70's for both of the "Trans Tech Electric" Chevy's.

Got back to the track around 2:30 pm, with practice starting around 3:30. By that time, the temperatures where in the high 90's. Angela went out the first practice with a few minor adjustments, which the car wasn't bad but it was a little tight! Crew Chief Darren decided to make some adjustments to try and free the car up. Amber went out the next practice and ran some decent laps with the car feeling pretty good, not wanting to make any changes. There was a total of twelve cars for the main event at Yakima Speedway.

Qualifying came around and Amber was about the fifth or sixth car out with her first lap being set at a 19.17 and the second lap it seemed a little tight and drove it on the rumble strips with a 19.21. Not a bad first lap for Amber! Angela then going out eighth, hit a 19.24 on the first lap which was the fastest first lap time she has ever set at Yakima, then coming around turn four, looking even better than her first lap, she tried to put the throttle down a little to early and spun the car around off turn four, barely missing the wall, (what a beautiful save Angela!). Crew Chief Darren knew she would have banged a great time had the car held on!

Darren and Loren Sutphin were spotters for Angela in the #35 car and Cale and Scott Streepy were spotters for the #30 car driven by Amber. During the first twenty laps or so, Amber was running in the fifth position just passing Mike Longton putting her in 4th and Angela running in the seventh position with a very loose race car! As the race came to a close, Angela had run consistently in the seventh position with the leaders in sight. Amber ended up spinning on lap 60 coming off turn two, she finished in 10th and Angela in 7th.

Overall, it wasn't a bad weekend, we learned a lot. The whole team came together and worked really hard from the time we pulled onto the track early Saturday morning till the time we left the track and it showed, we ran some of the fastest laps today than we ever have at Yakima Speedway.
